As a community provider, we pay particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed and living in poverty in our community. Our social work teams receives direct referrals from medical providers and provides direct service based on best practices to community members.
Community Education & Advocacy
We are passionate about educating our community on various risk factors impacting mental health and homelessness, along with exploring protective factors to strengthen individuals, families, and community at-large.
ECHOS functions as a community bridge that connects unwanted and/or unneeded items with households in need. ECHOS collects donations of new and used furniture, clothing, and apartment start-up supplies. Because of these donations, we can often provide clothing to our clients and their families and can ensure our clients have professional clothing for job interviews. In some cases, we are able to provide furniture for clients who are moving into new housing.
Our team collaborates directly with local and county services including:
- Community agencies and service providers
- Government entities
- Churches and faith communities
- Landlords and property owners
- Civic organizations
- Educational institutions
- Lancaster Coalition to End Homelessness
- United Way of Lancaster County
ECHOS and Elizabethtown College were awarded an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) for the 2018-19 fiscal year. The AmeriCorps VISTA mission is to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through mobilization of volunteers and resources. The ECHOS AmeriCorps VISTA efforts will directly impact the greater Elizabethtown area by recruiting more community volunteers and strengthening our community collaborations.
